Why Won't My Computer Show New Hardware Found?

Author: Buildacomputerguide.com Editors

When you try and install new hardware or peripherals on your computer, often Windows will automatically detect it, and then install the drivers for you. But what happens when Windows does not automatically detect your new hardware? We offer a few tips and things to try to get your hardware installed when your computer shows no new hardware has been found.

  1. Double check installation of hardware
If you have installed a card into the computer, make sure it is seeded correctly. If you have plugged in a USB device, is the connector in all the way? Is the USB port functional?

  2. Check the documentation
Many USB devices require drivers to be installed BEFORE plugging the device into a USB slot, so make sure this is not the case.

  3. How old is the hardware you are installing?
Newer versions of Windows may not have drivers ready to install for your legacy hardware. Check the version of Windows you are installing, and view hardware compatibility lists to make sure

  4. Check manufacturer Web site
Maybe there is another conflict with a different piece of hardware, or a known issue with your specific operating system. Most major hardware manufacturers have a support section or knowledge base where you can search problems and contact for further questions.
