AMD vs. Intel

This is a question that has been asked about a billion times in the past, when deciding on hardware components to build a new computer. The AMD vs. Intel debate is a matter of opinion, and of course, there are a lot of opinions.

The latest comparison between AMD and Intel comes as the new wave of 64-bit processors hit the shelves. We won’t get into technical specs here, but the choice between AMD dual cores and Intel dual cores really depends on what your computing needs are and your budget. The intel processors generally are more expensive, and are considered by many ‘experts’ to be superior in technology to their AMD counterparts. Some of the higher end Intel processors are best suited for server applications and high end computing needs. But for the gamer, small home office user, or basic computer, we generally recommend AMD processors when building a new machine for a couple of reasons:

  • Better overall performance
  • Much cheaper price

The old adage of ‘you get what you pay for’ does not apply here. The latest round of AMD processors, specifically the dual cores out perform the majority of dual core Intel processors in many different areas. The exceptions are for the very high end Intel processors, but the price difference is huge. Perfect for gaming machines and small home office type applications, we highly recommend AMD processors overall.
